Project Description:

The Wildlife Rescue Center was created by Mr James Brown Sweeney, a North American living in Ecuador since the year 1940 and pioneer in agricultural production in the territory of Santo Domingo de Los Tsáchilas. This Center is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating endangered wildlife, and after its rehabilitation reinserting it into its natural environment. The objective is, save wildlife and restore the right to freedom. This wildlife rescue center is located in a natural conservation farm in the canton of La Concordia - Province of Santo Domingo de Los Tsáchilas - Ecuador. We receive animals from different organizations like, from the National Police, the Ministry of the Environment, Environmentalists, NGOs or any agent that has a species that is wild fauna.

As this is a Wildlife Rescue Center, it is a kind of hospital for Rehabilitation and Release, it is a permanent program who works from January 2nd to December 23rd of every year.

Work Description:

The volunteer activities are as follows:

- Be part of the specimen rescue group (go out to the different places that are required to capture or recover a specimen)

- To assist in the reception and checking the animal´s status on arrival.

- Provide medicines and vitamins to the specimens in recovery.

- Neonatal feeding

- Control, monitoring and data collection of specimens in recovery.

- Veterinary assistant.

- All wildlife hospitalization activities

- Market activities and fruit collection for the pantry of the specimens

- Preparation of the food,

- Prepare diets for recovering specimens

- Feed the different specimens in recovery

- Environmental education and guidance to groups.

- Possible maintenance activities on paths and cages.

- Be part of the specimen release group to release the animals into their habitat when needed.   (Go out to different parts of the country if it is necessary)

- Office activities.

Requirements:

To be able to adapt to modest accomodation.

To be able to work at any time according to the needs of the center

Accommodation and Food:

Accommodation: In the project in the volunteer house

None 

Visa Info:

Visa is required for more than 90 days 

Insurance:

Volunteers are  responsible to contract a travel insurance 

Fees:

Program fee: 1.500,00 American dollars, must be paid at your arrival before going to the project.

 

Fees Used for:

Fee includes: 12 weeks of accommodation in the volunteer house of the reserve, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, internet access, facilities for laundry.

Fee does not include: Any kind of transportation, bottled water, extra food and beverages, calls.

Minimum time of participation:  12 weeks up to 1 year

Schedule: Work is from 08h00 to 17h00 WITH 1.30 hours for lunch time, the volunteer should be flexible with the schedule in emergencies with animals after  and before working hours or during the nights if it is necessary.
