Overview: West Bank Secondary School, one of the prestigious private secondary schools in Chikwawa, has partnered with the Sustainable Rural Community Development Organization (SURCOD) to become a hub of volunteerism. This volunteer teaching opportunity focuses on rethinking volunteer practices to ensure decolonized thinking. The project aims to address the Myth of the European Paradise by systematically combating this belief and addressing the root causes of migration through a multi-faceted approach.

Objectives:
Rethink Volunteer Practices: Ensure that volunteer activities are decolonized, empowering local communities and promoting sustainable development.
Combat the Myth of the European Paradise: Address the misconceptions that Europe is a paradise by providing accurate information and highlighting local opportunities.
Promote Sustainable Innovation and Economic Development: Motivate young people to invest in local industries and entrepreneurship, creating job opportunities and fostering economic growth.
Empower Youth through Education and Community Engagement: Provide vocational training and education aligned with local market needs, and engage youth in community development projects.

Position Title: Volunteer Teacher

Location: West Bank Secondary School, Chikwawa, Malawi

Organization: Sustainable Rural Community Development Organization (SURCOD)

Objective: To rethink volunteer practices to ensure decolonized thinking and systematically combat the Myth of the European Paradise by addressing root causes of migration through education, awareness, economic development, and community engagement.

Education and Awareness:

Reality Check Campaigns: Organize and lead campaigns to provide a realistic picture of life in Europe, including the challenges faced by migrants.
Success Stories at Home: Highlight and share success stories of individuals who have thrived by creating opportunities within their own countries.
Curriculum Development: Develop and deliver educational content that challenges misconceptions about migration and promotes local opportunities.
Economic Development:

Motivation and Training: Motivate young people to prioritize sustainable innovation and invest in local industries and entrepreneurship.
Permaculture and Agroecology: Teach sustainable farming practices, including permaculture and agroecology, to create job opportunities and foster economic growth.
Vocational Training: Develop and implement vocational training programs aligned with local market needs, empowering youth with skills required for employment and entrepreneurship.
Community Engagement:

Community Forums: Hold discussions and forums to address misconceptions and provide information about the risks of irregular migration.

Accommodation and Food:

Depending on the accommodation chosen, the volunteer will share and cook meals with the family and prepare meals as a team.

Accommodation: Volunteers can stay in the Host House, Hostel, guest house depending on the Choice of Volunteer, The cost of hosting is 300 EUR three month

Transport to Office: Small Buses to the work will cost between 1 EUR going and back per day

Fees:

The cost of hosting is 150 EUR per months, plus one-off payment of project admin fees of 100 EUR nonrefundable, all paid on arrival.

Fees is used for contribution towards Food and accomodation, and part of it project administration

This volunteer assignment will also focus on motivating young people to prioritize sustainable innovation and invest in local industries and entrepreneurship, creating job opportunities and fostering economic growth. (Permaculture, agro ecology and all other sustainable farming practices)

To develop and implement volunteer assignment that provide vocational training and education aligned with the local market needs, empowering youth with the skills required for employment and entrepreneurship.
