Project Description:

The SURCOD Innovation Hub aims to train Malawian youth to create jobs and develop sustainable solutions for global issues. They are building a fertilizer plant using leftovers, molasses, animal dung, and grass, called Turning Garbage into a Sustainable Solution. This facility will provide employment opportunities and address the high cost of fertilizers in Malawi, a long-term solution to the government's inexpensive input program. The hub aims to create a trained youth population capable of addressing global concerns.

The volunteer work aims to address youth unemployment and environmental sustainability by empowering youth with skills and knowledge to create their own jobs hence decolonising the thinking of our youths. This fosters a generation that is not just job seekers but also job creators. The project also promotes waste transformation, crucial for sustainable development. The potential for tangible impact is motivating, as it allows youth in Malawi to support themselves and their families while contributing to a cleaner, greener environment.

The high unemployment rate among Malawi's youth is exacerbated by environmental issues and poor policies and lack of innovation. To address these issues, a sustainable and circular economy model is proposed. This involves transforming waste materials like leftovers, molasses, animal dung, and grass into fertilizer, reducing reliance on expensive chemical fertilizers. This innovative approach not only provides affordable inputs for farmers but also creates job opportunities for young people. This shift towards sustainability and self-reliance is crucial for long-term economic and environmental resilience in Malawi.

The  center aims to establish a sustainable agricultural sector, benefiting thousands of youth and local farmers through employment opportunities and entrepreneurial training. It provides eco-friendly alternatives to chemical fertilizers, preserving soil health and reducing waste. The project improves crop yields, enhances food security, reduces youth unemployment, and promotes environmental sustainability, setting a global model for sustainable development. Its transformative impact boosts local economies.
