Project Description:

You are going to volunteer on an environmental project in the district of Punta Negra, with the purpose of creating a new culture and change of habits in the local community. The project is called ‘Voceros del Mar’ and is directed by the organization Red Marina. The project was established to protect and conserve the biological Humboldt corridors where biodiversity is most endangered, and to preserve the Ocean’s eco-systems and marine species.

Work Description:

As a volunteer on the project, you will be involved in various activities, depending on your skills, experience, and interests, and depending on the activity plans of the Red Marina directing the project.
Examples of the tasks you as a volunteer can help with on the project:

  • Activism on the beaches, campaign "Take Care of Your World" CTM,
  • Activities to raise awareness amongst kids and youth,
  • Educational activities about environmental awareness,
  • Observation of marine fauna (nests, snorkeling, habitat, anthropic activities),
  • Record of data in the nest of birds (which make the pairs of bird’s "oystercatcher",
  • Activities in the schools of "Punta Negra"
Requirements:

Being a volunteer on the project most of all requires the ability to be flexible and adapt to local culture, and the ability to work in groups. Easyness in interaction with kids and youth will help you a great deal, and experience in cultural and artistic activities is also very welcome (music, dance, theatre etc.). Peru is a Spanish speaking country, and communication in daily life is in Spanish. But you can participate in the activities with only little Spanish, we require at least that you try to learn Spanish, so you can integrate into the community and your host family. There is no need to be fluent and your Spanish will certainly improve while you are there.

Accommodation and Food:

The Volunteer will live with a family from the community, and will have three meals a day.

Visa Info:

When entering Peru you will have a visa for 90 days, with an extension to 90 more days (not extended), upon request at the Peruvian Immigration office.

Insurance:

The volunteers must contract a travel insurance that covers accidents, loss by theft and health problems during the volunteering period.

 

Fees:

390 Euros per month.

Fees Used for:

Will be used for food expenses, airport pick-up, training in Lima before going to the project, transportation from Lima to the project, materials for the project, administrative expenses.

Application Info:

The application may be accepted at any time of the year and the start of the project between the months of March and December, at any time.
