Location : The project is at Sango Otta, Ogun State. The location is a medium populated centre and between gate way to Lagos and Ogun State. The environment is receptive and also home of history.

Project Description:

The home was founded in  1958 by Mrs. Irene Willoughby, who recognized the need of a home for abandoned children. Now, the home is run by the first baby of the home. There are over 100 children in the home, from newborn babies to young adults. All the children have the same surname called Willoughby.  They live together as brothers and sisters in same family. Since this is a non-adoption home, the children stay there till they marry and found their own families. The staff of the centre are raised from the home to manage administration and organization of events.  The home is provided with food and other materials though gifts and donations.  The webpage of the home: http://ijamidochildrenshome.org/

 

Work Description:

In the morning volunteer take care of the babies, carry them around, change pampers, feed them and play with them. After the other children come back from school, volunteer can help with homewor and also give extra lessons to smaller groups. In the afternoon he can arrange games, sports, and any other entertainment.  Also Health and Safety awareness / gender education programms can be arranged in cooperation with the staff. In the evening the volunteer is welcome to join the evening activities in the rooms before going to bed, like story-telling and games.

Requirements:

Ability to develop friendly and family attitude is tolerated.
·         Be motivated for the voluntary work

·         Responsible to keep rules and exhibit cooperation throughout the workcamps

·         Best efforts to understand and respect cultures both of the hosts and other volunteers

·         Open minded to make friends, speak English (within the groups) as official language

To adapt and enjoy simple conditions of living such as food and accommodation and ready to adapt to simple conditions and experience a different culture;
some basic knowledge about baby-care and little-child education are beneficial, but not compulsory.

Accommodation and Food:

Volunteer living apartment  often times with stay host family closer to the project and if interested, volunteer can reside in a self-contain bedroom in project centre with available facilities.

Visa Info:

Visa Issues: Please note that Tourist Visa is only for 8 weeks while stay for Business Visa or TWP Visa is not more than 6 months. If your stay is more than 6 months, STR Visa should be collected before departure. VWAN will help to administrate and facilitate extension Visa where possible.

Insurance:

The volunteer should obtain appropriate   insurance to cover period of stay in the project.  Host organisation allow this to be evident before placement in the project.

Fees:

The participation fee is 300€  for 1 month placement for each camp project.

Fees Used for:

This covers both feeding and accommodation per week without any extra cost to collect for return trip to Airport.  Immediate payment is made by the volunteer on arrival to the country.  The participation fee will cover expenses on daily feeding, moderate accommodation, administration, on-arrival orientation, group travels to the project site, preparation, certification and other logistics support.

Application Info: It is expected of volunteers to show affection towards the babies, cradles, toddlers or kindergarten children.   The volunteers will be required to be friendly, sociable and ready to extend good values and morals into the main streams of the programme.  Ability to develop friendly and family spirit is much tolerated.
Additional Information:

Pick up is arranged by VWAN on arrival  and to the Airport after project.  NO extra fees is required after the payment of Participation fees on arrival.
