Project Description:

Galilee Community General Hospital was started up in 2008 in the slum areas of Lubaga Division, 5 km from the capital Kampala. The establishment of Galilee was due to lack of health services in the area as people had to travel long distances to the public hospitals. The hospital currently has a capacity of up to forty inpatient beds. It is registered by the Medical board council of Uganda with a practicing License.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    

Work Description:

·         Working with the health Team

·         Helping on-medical personnel basing on skills possessed by volunteer

·         Engage in patient home visits

·         Provide hand in immunization exercises

·         Ensuring patient care is maintained

·         Early childhood growth & development lessons

·         Represent hospital in seminars and trainings

·         HIV counseling and testing

·         HIV sensitization and awareness in schools

·         Participate and coordinate village Outreaches

·         Registration and assessment of new beneficiaries

·         Follow up on activities

Administrative/office work

Requirements:

·         The volunteer must:

·         being emotionally strong

·         motivated

·         open minded

.        Volunteers with medical background and administrative skills

 

Accommodation and Food:

The volunteer has the possibility to choose between staying in the guesthouse, with different international volunteers (sharing room, normally 2-4 people) or to stay in a host family. Accommodation is at the UPA Guesthouse, average but not luxury.

Volunteers prepare their own food. UPA provides gas cooker, a fridge, and utensils.

Alternatively, a volunteer can stay with a host family to be more exposed to the Ugandan culture.

 

Pocket Money:

UPA does not give pocket money to any volunteers.

Visa Info:

The volunteers must apply for a tourist visa online with this link. https://www.visas.immigration.go.ug/ . This should be done a couple of weeks or months before the departure date. The form requires you to fill in the address of the contact person in Uganda and you should use: ZZIWA SAMUEL MUSANYUSA, NANSANA WEST I ZONE, +256785601220. The immigration department sends you an approval document which you must print and present on arrival at the airport. The tourist visa costs 50 US $ and it’s paid during the visa application process on the immigration portal using selected pay cards.

Insurance:

The volunteers are expected to come when they are already insured.

Fees:

Participants are required to pay a participation fee of Euro 500 (five hundred Euros) on arrival for a period of 1- 3months and 80 Euros (eighty Euros) in advance for each additional month/s.

Fees Used for:

The fee covers pickup from the airport or bus station upon arrival in Uganda, orientation, guesthouse maintenance, and administration costs of UPA

Additional Information:

UPA doesn’t offer airport drop off after the project but can help in identifying the service provider and the volunteer meets the costs ranging between 30-35 Euros
