Project Description:

The project is located in the San Cristobal Island- sector of the Leaks, 21 kilometers from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the capital city of the province of Galapagos, in this island there is a sector where there is a wall with an eye of water which comes out at a height of approximately 8 meters, it falls to the ground drop by drop forming a pool of water, in this place where there are approximately 15 families who are dedicated to agriculture and livestock, 35 years ago, use to go to this place by donkey to collect water in chimbuzos of five gallons to cook, to do the laundry, to take  a  bath was carried out in the same place,

Our objective is to make reforestation in the San Cristobal island, with endemic and native plants in rural and urban areas with the help of international, individual or group of volunteers and local families, to help in the conservation and protection of the environment, o strengthen community agricultural work and support for activities of social interest.

 Our motto is, drop by drop to conserve the endemic and native plants of Galapagos that are in danger of extinction.

PUBLIC SERVICES: On the island there is water, electricity, telephones. Internet can be found in Internet cafes and Wi-Fi areas. Laundry services are available for $ 2 / kilo at the port, but you can wash your clothes by hand.

TROPICAL DISEASES: there is no presence of Zika, malaria or dengue in the islands

Type: Permanent, the project works from January 2nd to December 20th of every year.

Schedule: Monday to Friday  from 8:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 16:00, weekends off.

Work Description:

The activities in the program could be:

• Fence maintenance 

• Deforestation of invasive plants (blackberry, tupirosa, guava)

• Reforestation of endemic and native plants

• Various construction work to improve the farm

• Animal feed

• Take out the milk

• Cheese making

• Preparation of seedlings

• Seed collection

• Organic garden work

• Community works

• Water irrigation

• House cleaning, stables

• Fruit picking

• Soil preparation, fertilizer

Requirements:

Age: Older than 18. 

Language: Basic Spanish is necessary. English.

Accommodation and Food:

Accommodation is in the house of the project.

Food is not included, it is the volunteer responsbility

The  tax of entrance to the National Park Galapagos must be paid by the volunteer

 

Insurance:

The volunteer must contract a travel insurance

Fees:

Program fee 500,00 American dollars, must be paid before their arrival to Galápagos through a Bank transfer.

Cost includes: Three weeks of accommodation in the project,  and bottled water,  electricity, gas, ,house cleaning products.

Cost does not include:  Food, flights or any kind of transportation, tours, taxes, phone calls, internet, insurance

Fees Used for:

Acommodation:  The project has a large room for 6 people, with bathroom, kitchen, living room, and dining room, kitchen utensils, microwave, refrigerator, kitchen, among others, it also has an area of 500 m2 of natural grass for camping, tennis volley court rest areas.

Additional Information:

What to bring: · Cap or hat, Sunglasses, Light clothing,  insect repellent , sunblock, towel, rain jacket, mountain, shoes or rubber boots, items for personal hygiene, work gloves, environmentally friendly soap, long sleeves t– shirts.

The Galapagos program does not include food,  the volunteers are responsible for their food, as soon as the volunteers arrive on the island, the coordinator accompany the volunteers to the store to buy their supplies.
