Project Description:

Stanton Home has a team of 70+ dedicated professionals who partner with and provide support to over 20 adults with diverse needs. These adults live in 8 residential homes in Berkshire communities and come together daily for a vibrant day program at Stanton Home Farm in Great Barrington, MA with activities including gardening, composting, music, yoga, horseback riding, hiking, weaving, culinary arts, and various activities throughout the local community.  Our mission is dedicated to providing quality care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Work Description:

The farm and garden volunteer offers a dynamic opportunity to be involved in the maintenance of the Stanton Home gardens, while supporting a diverse group of adults with special needs. The goal of our farm and garden program is to actively engage and support our day program participants in every step of the process in the production of vegetables, flowers, and herbs. The Stanton Home farm and garden includes three 2,000 square foot greenhouses and several acres of production fields.  The produce grown at Stanton Home currently gets distributed to our residential homes, to day program participants, as well as being used in our Culinary Program and sold at our Farm Store.   

Requirements:

A caring mindset, empathy and compassion. Enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.  A team oriented approach and the commitment to developing positive relationships with residents, program participants and teammates. Dependable, professional and task-oriented.  Experience and confidence as a grower and gardener is preferred (additional training will be provided). Experience in education and/or working with special needs individuals preferred but not required. Ability to speak at least intermediate English and a valid driver's license allowing you to drive in the US is required.

Accommodation and Food:

Food is provided.  Local, fresh meals are made during volunteer shifts, with ingredients often from the Stanton Home biodynamic farm.  A private or shared bedroom and shared bath are provided in one of the residential houses or at the Farm.

Pocket Money:

Stipend is dependent on terms of agreement between sending agency and Stanton Home.

Visa Info:

SCI-IVS USA will provide documents for the volunteer's Visa.

Insurance:

Volunteers must have appropriate health insurance, arranged either privately or through the SCI sending organization.
