Assend Youth Development Foundation was founded in 2011 as a street children initiative by a former street youth Mr. Kibande Moses Daniel who learnt about the real life of a street child and all the consequences a head, he then started sharing them with his peers, and in 2013 AYDF, was officially registered as a community based organization with registration NO, CEN/13/156 mainly to a power valuable communities/street children with valuable and marketable skills that enhances their potential to effectively participate in the development process of the country and at household levels by initiating practical skills development among themselves and hence improve on to their social wellbeing.
Realizing from the past research work carried out by AYDF on the causes and impact of street life on both personal and national development, and recognizing the escalating number of street children in Kampala suburb areas, AYDF realized the need to expand its areas of operation so as to bring about comprehensive and effective social service delivery to the target group, therefore in 2015, AYDF was registered as a non-government organization with registered number S.5914/11964.
· Engage street children, orphan and other vulnerable children in Counseling and psychosocial support
· Vocational training skills (if the volunteers brings the skills)
· Engage the street children/ vulnerable children in sports/ Soccer program so as to promote talent and skills development
· Curry out/participating in community and home visits together with other staff, to see the life situation of the children living in the slums
· Participate in promoting functional literacy and numeracy among the street children that can prepare them for formal education
· Organizing, teaching and supervising the computer class
· Documentation/proposal Developing and design
· Street Children/Community outreach: this involves community HIV/AIDS awareness and testing. Street children counseling. AYDF is working on 4R module which involves Rescue, Rehabilitate, Reconcile and Resettle.
· Economic Empowerment: AYDF is working closely with vulnerable community households by providing small loans to set up small scale businesses that will enable them improve on their social welfare.
Human rights Advocacy: AYDF works closely with the community leaders, religious leaders, police, local government, and central government to promote child rights and create awareness among the vulnerable community members and ensure safer place for child development
AYDF has different programs, it depends on the volunteers skills and interest where to engage, there is room for new activities.
Volunteers with social work skills but also other professions are very welcomed.
AYDF also welcomes volunteers with no profession but can use practical skills and experiences to perfect social service delivery to the needy people. However we expect volunteers adhering to our objectives to be active, take and participate in the organization’s activities that fit his/ her interest in working with AYDF and share the knowledge with other staff members for perfect social service delivery.
Accommodation
Volunteers has the possibility to choose between staying in the guesthouse, with different international volunteers (sharing room, normally 2-4 people) or to stay in a host family. Accommodation is at the UPA Guesthouse, average but not luxury.
Food
Volunteers prepare their own food. UPA provides gas cooker, a fridge, and utensils.
Alternatively, a volunteer can stay with a host family to be more exposed to the Ugandan culture
UPA does not give pocket money to any volunteer
The volunteers must apply for a tourist visa online with this link. https://www.visas.immigration.go.ug/ . This should be done a couple of weeks or months before the departure date. The form requires you to fill in the address of the contact person in Uganda and you should use: ZZIWA SAMUEL MUSANYUSA, NANSANA WEST I ZONE, +256785601220. The immigration department sends you an approval document which you must print and present on arrival at the airport. The tourist visa costs 50 US $ and it’s paid during the visa application process on the immigration portal using selected pay cards.
The volunteer is required to come with his/her insurance
500 Euros shall be paid on arrival for one to three months. The fee covers pickup from the airport or bus station upon arrival in Uganda, orientation, guesthouse maintenance, and administration costs of UPA. If the volunteer is to stay for more than 3 months, 80 euros are paid per extra month in advance

The interested volunteers are requested to contact our partners in their respective countries so as be guided on the application process.
UPA doesn’t offer airport drop off after the project but can help in identifying the service provider and the volunteer meets the costs ranging between 28-30 Euros.
