Project Description:

Another Hope Children’s Ministries (AHCM) is a Non-Profit, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered by the government of Uganda, Reg. No. S5914/8153. It was established as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in 2006 and acquired the NGO status in 2009 and located in Kkona/West Village, Wakiso Sub-County in Wakiso District about 18 kilometers from Kampala city which is a 40 minutes’ drive. AHCM operates in four districts of Wakiso, Kampala, Mukono, and Buikwe.

Work Description:

·         Reading materials to kids to help them in their English fluency.

·         Raising awareness about the organization’s work and activities, as well as the plight of vulnerable children in the country both locally and internationally.

·         Walking with pre-scholars to school

·         Assisting children in their homework assignments

·         Bathing the children and maintaining proper hygiene

·         Playing with the children, counseling and disciplining them

·         Administering medication to the sick children

·         Assisting the children in doing house chores – fetching water from the well, farming, etc

·         Offer professional expertise to the children and AHCM management.

·         Taking part in school evaluation exercises.
Taking part in field-based visits.

Requirements:

·         Loving heart- ability to offer love and care to the children

·         Guidance and Counseling Skills – on behavioral change, reproductive health, sexuality, education and HIV/AIDS related issues.

·         Motivational skills – Motivating children and the young adults on best behavior, success tips, offering Career guidance.

·         Hardworking and ready to take on any task and challenges.

·         Flexible
Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting

Accommodation and Food:

Accommodation

Volunteers has the possibility to choose between staying in the guesthouse, with different international volunteers (sharing room, normally 2-4 people) or to stay in a host family. Accommodation is at the UPA Guesthouse, average but not luxury.

 

Food

Volunteers prepare their own food. UPA provides gas cooker, a fridge, and utensils.

Alternatively, a volunteer can stay with a host family to be more exposed to the Ugandan culture.

Pocket Money:

UPA does not give pocket money to any volunteer

Visa Info:

The volunteers must apply for a tourist visa online with this link. https://www.visas.immigration.go.ug/ . This should be done a couple of weeks or months before the departure date. The form requires you to fill in the address of the contact person in Uganda and you should use: ZZIWA SAMUEL MUSANYUSA, NANSANA WEST I ZONE, +256785601220. The immigration department sends you an approval document which you must print and present on arrival at the airport. The tourist visa costs 50 US $ and it’s paid during the visa application process on the immigration portal using selected pay cards.

Insurance:

The volunteer is required to come with his/her insurance

Fees:

500 Euros shall be paid on arrival for one to three months. The fee covers pickup from the airport or bus station upon arrival in Uganda, orientation, guesthouse maintenance, and administration costs of UPA. If the volunteer is to stay for more than 3 months, 80 euros are paid per extra month in advance.

Additional Information:

UPA doesn’t offer airport drop off after the project but can help in identifying the service provider and the volunteer meets the costs ranging between 28-30 Euros.
